No-Sew Toy Felt Cupcakes and Recipe Roundup – Do you like to play with your food? Then you’ll love this creative cupcake craft. Simple and inexpensive, it’s a great accompaniment to those Valentine’s Day gifts!
It’s no secret in my home that I like to play with my food. It all started at a young age when, much to the chagrin of my mother, I would find creative ways to eat my desserts. Like that promotional campaign from years ago with the tag line, “there’s no wrong way to eat a Reese’s,” I maintain “there’s no wrong way to eat a cupcake.” When I was I kid I would always eat the bottoms off of my cupcakes first. I’m of the belief that cupcakes are better that way because you can really enjoy the flavor of the cake, but then finish with an icing-rich top… And perhaps icing and crumbs everywhere…
Later on, I started to channel my playing-with-food energy into cooking instead of making sticky messes. But after my son entered those magical preschool pretend-play years, he rekindled some of my youthfulness when he started to get interested in what I was doing in the kitchen. Sometimes when I’m working on content for the blog, he sets up his play food in the kitchen and “cooks” along with me. I got him a children’s camera for Christmas, so now he photographs, too. Little blogger in the making, perhaps? I’m guessing he would choose to write a Lego blog, though…
As a way to stave off rainy-and-chilly-day boredom with budget-friendly fun, I started making play food with my son. Many of our crafts are simply made from felt (39 cents a sheet) and hot glue! We have fun creating them and they’re so darling! Today I have a project for No-Sew Toy Felt Cupcakes. I made them pink and purple in anticipation of Valentine’s Day. Perhaps you have a little one in your life that would love to receive one with their Valentine?
Check out my how-to YouTube video below. Afterwards, you may feel a bit hungry for cupcakes, so I also put together a roundup of my favorite Valentine’s Day cupcake recipes from around the web. There’s something for everyone – gluten free, vegan, and boozy too! From the little play kitchen of David and I, we hope you have a happy, frosting-filled Valentine’s Day – no matter how you decide to eat it!
Warning: Don’t leave small children alone with small toys due to the risk of choking.
